What information we collect

We only collect information that you actively provide to us:

• Your email address, if you register your interest in being notified when books are available.
• Via the Butterfly Question form: a parent or guardian's email address, the child's first name (optional, only if you wish it to appear if the idea is featured), and the idea submitted.

Lawful basis

Our lawful basis for processing in both cases is your consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)), which you give by submitting the form.

How we use your information

• Email addresses collected via the notification form are used solely to contact you when the books become available to order.
• Email addresses submitted with butterfly ideas are used to contact you if the idea is selected to be featured on the website.

How we store your information

Information you submit is received by email directly to the site owner. It is not stored in any database, cloud service, or third-party platform. It is held only in the site owner's email account.

Retention periods: Email addresses from the notification form are deleted within 30 days of the launch announcement being sent. Butterfly-idea submissions are deleted within 12 months of receipt, or within 30 days of the idea being published on the site, whichever is sooner.

Email provider: Emails are received into a Microsoft Outlook.com account, which acts as a data processor on our behalf. Microsoft may store data in the United States under the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

Cookies

This site does not use cookies or any tracking technologies.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, you have the right to:

• Request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
• Ask us to correct or delete your personal data.
• Withdraw consent at any time.
• Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk if you believe we have not handled your personal data properly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify anyone whose data we currently hold by email before the changes take effect. The date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision.
